Karuizawa Golf Club is an 18-hole, par-72 woodland course in Karuizawa, Nagano Prefecture, opened in 1931. The course plays to 6,645 yards from the back tees and was designed by Yuji Kodera. It is one of the older golf clubs in the Karuizawa resort area, a longtime warm-weather retreat for Tokyo residents. The club is located in Minamigaoka, Karuizawa Town, Kitasaku District, about 6 kilometers from the Usui-Karuizawa interchange on the Joshinetsu Expressway. Caddy service is required for play at this club, in keeping with the traditional format common at older Japanese courses. The woodland setting places the course among trees typical of the Karuizawa area, at elevation in the hills of northern Nagano. With nearly a century of history since its 1931 opening, Karuizawa Golf Club is among the established clubs in the region, offering a full 18-hole round of championship length for visitors travelling from the Tokyo area via the Joshinetsu Expressway.
