Rope Club is an 18-hole, par-74 hilly course in Shioya, Tochigi, opened in 1990. The course was designed by Tadashi Sasaki with supervision from Gene Sarazen and plays 6,749 yards from the back tees across two nine-hole loops. Golfers reach the club by JR Kataoka Station, which runs a club bus, or by car via Tohoku Expressway Yaita IC, about 6km away. Green fees start at 12,500 yen on weekdays and 13,800 yen on weekends. Caddy service is optional, and play uses remote-controlled riding carts that stay off the fairways. After the round, players can use the onsen bath on site. The hilly layout and Gene Sarazen's design input give this course an international pedigree in the Tochigi countryside, within reach of the Tohoku Expressway for visitors combining a round with travel further north.
